Restaurants

This is a list of restaurants I like to visit. Obviously because I like the food, but also because I can eat in the garden or because the boss is such an authentic figure. My list is far from complete, but I hope this selection already offers some ideas for everyones' taste and purse.

Au Romain
Brasserie where you are welcome for a drink or a good meal.

Anke and Philippe run a hotel-brasserie in an old building on the way from La Goutte au Bord de l'Aisne direction Manhay. They retained the original character of the house from 1860 and the cozy dining room smells like the open fire that burns on cold days. Filip is a cook who follows a traditional cuisine. Beef stew with fries, lamb crowns, trout ... I thought it was delicious and the atmosphere was homey, loose and relaxed.

The restaurant is open on Thursdays and Fridays from 18h, Saturday from 16h and on Sundays and holidays from 12am.

La Tièsse di Bwès te Wéris

An unexpected pearl.

The oldest restaurant of Wéris is called La Tièsse di Bwès, Walloon for La Tête de Bois (the Wooden Head). I tried the most expensieve menu of two, 'Arthur' à 50€, and were treated with some appetisers,
two excellent starters, the main dish and a dessert. I tasted some terrific wines for the reasonable prize of ±30€/bottle.
The restaurant is managed by only two persons, the chef and his wife, so one has to have a little patience between two dishes. But it is worth it because every dish is prepared with a lot of caution. During summer you can also eat outside.

The restaurant is only open during weekends and accepts only cash. It is necessary to make a reservation.

Brasserie Fred at Durbuy-Ville
Bib Gourmand, Brasserie of the Sanglier des Ardennes,
kitchen is open non-stop.

Brasserie Fred is a spin-off of the renowned restaurant "Le Sanglier des Ardennes". But where "Le Sanglier" offers a more conservative menu, Fred goes for a slightly lighter version. Quality for a reasonable price is the main idea. And that's exactly what you can expect here. No big surprises on the menu, but a few classics that are prepared according to the rules. Their Steak Tartare for example, often a good test for the quality of the food, is excellent. Their Bouchée à la Reine is one of the best I've ever eaten (sorry grandma).

To our taste a little too much cowhides in the interior, but the view of the castle makes it quite right.

Count on € 30 for a main course, plus dessert, an appetizer and bottle of excellent house wine.

Le Parc at Durbuy-Ville

The most Durbuysian restaurant of Durbuy.

This is Durbuy 'pure blood'. For over 30 years this family runs this real Durbuysian restaurant. For me it is the most Belgian restaurant of the town as well. The menu features all the dishes you would expect here, from trout to steak or mussels (highly recommended!) or a venison roast in the season. Here you do not come to find big surprises, but because there are dishes for everyone's taste. Of course there is also a children's menu.

You will always be served with a smile, or by the ever friendly Cédric, by Brieu or by one of the other fixed waiters. Boss Michel has never been shy to have a chat with his clients, but I suspect that the real secret of le Parc lies in the hands of the "godmother" who passes her recipes and still keeps an eye on the kitchen.

I love coming to this family restaurant for lunch or dinner because of the authenticity and because the complete picture is correct.

In the center of Durbuy.

Le Cor de Chasse at Wéris

Top restaurant with 1 Michelinstar.

For whom only the best is good enough, I only have one address: Le Cor de Chasse. You choose (at weekends) from two menus, with or without wines, or on weekdays à la carte. I chose the 'menu dégustation' at € 58 with wines at € 28 and was not disappointed. What chef Mario Elias puts on the table is extraordinary. The wines go perfectly with every dish and are generously donated. The service is fast and accurate and the interior of the restored chateau is sober and tasteful. I can only be positive on this restaurant. Not cheap, of course, but definitely value for money.

l'Etable at Heyd

In Grill l'Etable it's all about cows.

Once every so often I decide go for meat, especially for the best steak I know. L'Etable is a cozy no-nonsense grill. Eric, the owner and cook, grills meat over an open fire in the middle of the restaurant. For ± 20 euros / person you can enjoy a good meal in an authentic atmosphere. Eric also has an excellent wine list and does not exaggerate with the price. But a Godefroid, a local beer from Bouillon, is also worth tasting.

Reservations are required and can be from 17:00.
Open only during the weekends: Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 19.00h. L'Etable only accepts cash.

In the center of Heyd, opposite the church.

Le Clos des Récollets at Durbuy-Ville (Bib Gourmand - Michelin)

Gourmet cuisine in a 17th century building

Le Clos des Récollets is one of the better restaurants in the area. The dishes are all made with fresh ingredients. No heavy food, no large quantities, but more than enough and prepared very tasty. The wine list offers some pricey boys, but you are sure to find a good affordable wine. Or you take a menu with matching wines. The coffee afterwards alone makes you want to visit le Clos again soon. The service is no nonsense, friendly and correct. Le Clos is in the Bib Gourmand from Michelin, and this is really a reference. Take your time, because you often have to wait between two dishes.

Restaurant Victoria at Durbuy-Ville

Lovely garden and pleasant terrace.

The Victoria cooks throw everything on the grill. But they do it with style. The chicken of the house is one of my favorites, surprisingly fine and seasoned with a delicious garlic sauce. The fish of the day never disappoints and I order it full confidence. The dishes have something refreshing and unexpected. Menu at € 30 pp or a la carte. For those who like it there is a special pastis aperitif. I like it especially with good weather, when you can eat in the garden or on the terrace.

Radadesh - Hare Krishna at Septon

Vegetarian dish with a touch of kitsch.

In the castle of Septon, near Durbuy, is a Hare Krishna community. For those who like vegetarian, this is the place to eat. The restaurant is not very attractive and feels a bit cold and kitschy, but if the weather is good you can eat outside. For € 15 you have the best vegetarien dish. Plentiful and fresh. Also try the nut bread from their bakery, next to their shop. Very tasty!

Kitchen is open from 12h to 20h (April-November)
or from 12h to 18h (October to March)
